I Got review

Rolling Stone

Just in time for Memorial Day is this week’s goldmine: Houston DJ Dave Wrangler transforms indie hits till their dancefloor proper. It’s like when everyone leaves school for summer vacation, and then they come back the next year and the old captain of the debate team is all into Slayer and body modification.

Subservient Experiment

First up is Houston DJ (and SubEx fav) Dave Wrangler whom we hope will soon make his way up from the armpit of Texas to do a few sets in D town. Sure we've heard countless remixes/mashups involving Dead Prez's "Hip Hop," but this mashup (with Clap Your Hands And Say Yeah) is the first we can think of that pushes the tempo and makes us feel a little nervous.

The World In A Paper Cup

Mr Wrangler has touch when it comes to mash ups. Finding the right way to pull these to together is an sign of true skill. Its like they were meant to be.

Mashuptown

Genres hardly exist for Dave Wrangler, Houston, Texas man who seems to cranking out mashups, remixes, and blends like the rest of us do lunch and dinner. In fact, It looks like he's only been making musical offerings to the masses since the beginning of 2008, so his
plethora of tunes is all the more impressive. As stated, Wrangler likes to bend genres -
although Indie Rock, Hip Hop and Electronica take center stage. For download here you'll find him mashing Notorious B.I.G. with Ghostland Observatory, resulting in Biggie spitting over
beats beyond his time.

For all these reasons and more, I am thrilled to present a delicious cut of the original, the Dave Wrangler remix. If you thought the original was good, check this bad boy out–there’s even sound bytes at the beginning!

Saint Andre

Dammit this guy is good. Normally we don’t post about this kind of music, but this guy just needs to get props. I haven’t been this excited about mashups in quite a while. In fact, for the most part I probably haven’t heard mashups that sound so clean since Brush Your Bittersweet Shoulders Off – the mash that rules them all.

Pasta Primavera

I know I declared Houston’s Dave Wrangler a robot last month, but now I’m beginning to think he’s some sort of super powered alien. He just puts out remix after mash up after remix.

The Fast Life

Dave Wrangler used to boost up the frequency of our blog with his latest remixes, rightly. Today we’re very confident, that the cracker he pitched and shipped this time will kick the guts out of the bodies. While Dave Wrangler already had an original mix of this Amanda Blank track on his yearned upcoming remix album Under the Influence, Dave thought he’d take a stab at using one of the YACHT tracks. Good choice!

Sheena Beaston

Dave Wrangler ushers in this majorly hot NYC morning with another preview track from his upcoming release, Under the Influence. Take one part underground hip-hop legends and one part indie dancerock gurus, and you've got a tight piece of work befit of gangsters wearing skinny jeans and thin boys rocking big bling. Wrangler grabs hold of the lazily swagger-filled Dead Prez track, Hip-Hop, and amps up the speed by wisely allowing Clap Your Hands Say Yeah's Satan Said Dance to share space on this mash as well. Also, if you're in Houston, Wrangler has just started a new residency at Hotel Zaza each Saturday night in the Monarch Lounge. Lucky Texans.

The POP! Stereo

Dave Wrangler will dabble in any and all genres and his style of performance and production reflect his chaotic focus. He blends elements of hip-hop, electronica, indie, rock and dance into a seamless mix of high-energy madness! Ok, so that just described like every DJ right now...but as one of the busiest and most versatile DJ's in Houston, he is becoming one of the most acclaimed new producers/remixers in the bloghouse (thanks for the description HR!).

Dave's tracks, remixes and sets have been featured with the likes of underground and mainstream powerhouses: Soulwax, Diplo, Justice, Peaches, Portishead, MIA and Santogold just about everywhere. This time Mr. Wrangler has decided to tackle the Beasties and Kanye West/Twista. Two different tracks two different approaches. If the Beastie Boys track would have been released in 98 it would have had Big Beat Anthem stamped all over it...a post-classic if there ever was one. Meanwhile, the Kanye/Twista track pumps up the energy level like 100 times and lets Underworld run all over the thing. It's yet another post 90's anthem.

Ear It Now

2009 Houston Press Best DJ Nominee Dave Wrangler (yeah I know, long intro name) is every bit worthy of being a best DJ nominee. I don't know who he lost to (care to share, Dave?) I'm surprised he didn't win because he consistently reforges good songs into great jams. Get a load of this particular remix in particular and keep the ears out for more tunes as Dave sends them
my way.

Pop Reckoning

Remixes and mashups fall into the same genre of music; like brother and sister. Remixes consist of songs that have parts pulled away and/or added on by another musician, whereas mashups consist of combining two separate songs to make one cohesive unit. Dave Wrangler is one of the latest in making mashups and remixes and he has put together three stunning tracks that use Ghostland Observatory as the base.

The Culture of Me

Since we just got a remix of it from the likely-to-be-mistaken-for-a-bro Dave Wrangler which just so happens to be sufficiently synthy and laid-back (like Animal Collective themselves) for our tastes, we figured it'd be good to share.

Friend My Little Brain

Dave Wrangler dropped us a line with some new tracks and a link up to a fresh new mix:
Check me out next Byte FM Radio in Germany for an exclusive Dave Wrangler DJ Mix. This particular mix is aimed more at showcasing the remixes, mash-ups, and original material that I’ve cranked out over the past few months…

Pretty Much Amazing

Mr. Wrangler sent over this PB&JÂ mashup/remix and here we are. A lot of people dug that new Peter, Bjorn & John track that Kanye West leaked a few days ago (“Nothing To Worry About”), and now good ole Dave Wrangler has done an exquisite job of mashing and mixing it up with none other than B.I.G. I’m not a fan of Mr. Biggie, but this somehow works just fine. More than fine, even. But the new PB&J remix has nothing on his fantastic Animal Collective remix. “My Girls,” as I’ve said before, is my favorite track off Merriweather Post Pavilion, and I’m glad the remixes I’ve heard so far are doing it justice.

Above the Fold

Dave Wrangler who has been a remixing factory of late just sent over his new remix of the song, which is good because I had already listened to the original a good 50 times. The remix itself just adds a straightforward club beat to the track, but its still worth the listen.

The Fast Life

To celebrate the dropping of his remix/mashup-album Under the Influence next month with
tracks from Biggie, Kanye West, YACHT, Ciara, N.A.S.A. and more Dave Wrangler suprises the sphere with a brandnew mashup of N.A.S.A. vs YACHT. Accompanying the album, will be a
variety of original videos to look for on Youtube- such as this mix of Money by N.A.S.A. We definitely stay tuned!

The Culture of Me

Dave Wrangler, the bro-looking awesome remixer from Houston just sent us over a new remix and a message about his status in putting the finishing touches on the Heads Up Houston album, which is comprised of Houston artists--both mainstream and underground. Wrangler will be releasing the record February 20 via the www.headsuphouston.com website as a free download. In the meantime, please enjoy this new jam that the dude passed along to us.

33 Jones

Continuing the theme from yesterday of mixing hip hop with robotic beats, Dave Wrangler has sent in hist latest remix featuring Biggie's Nasty Girl blended with an instrumental from electro funk group Ghostland Observatory's Heavy Heart. Purists may cringe at the idea of combining the two, but it ends up sounding like something the Neptunes might have put together for the Clipse circa 2001. Peep: Biggie vs. Ghostland Observatory - Nasty Girl (Dave Wrangler remix)

The Mixtape Exclusive

Dave Wrangler, the man behind some rocking remixes of Animal Collective, Jay-Z, Foals and more, brings The Mix Tape a first post on this new mash up. Originally Wrangler was meant to hit us up for our 1st birthday celebration yesterday, but no matter, this still sounds pretty magic to us...Scream (Dave Wrangler Remix) - Michael Jackson Vs.
